Lawyer for the embattled 22 students leaders of Atlantic Hall who were unlawfully rusticated after violence broke out on campus last year has filed a contempt suit at the Cape Coast high Court following the university's flagrant disregard for the orders of the court to restore the students.
The suit which was filed on 27th February 2018 comes after both the high court and the Supreme Court struck out the university's application for a review of the judgement delivered last year.
The University has refused to obey the orders of the court and also refused to cooperate despite the fact that lawyer for the 22 students has written letters to them. The hearing of the contempt application is slated for 9th March, 2018.
In a related development, it's alleged that the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast Prof. Joseph Ghatey has described as 'bogus' the ruling of the high court instructing the University to restore the students. This also includes the decisions of both the High court and the Supreme Court that struck out the University's application for a review. The comments were made by the vice chancellor in a residence committee meeting held in Takoradi this week.
Many have described the comments of the Vice chancellor as reckless and inflammatory and an affront on the integrity of the Supreme Court and high court.
